A tragic incident unfolded in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district on Wednesday, where a 27-year-old man allegedly shot dead his sister-in-law before taking his own life. The case is suspected to be linked to an alleged love affair, according to news agency PTI.
Incident Details
The event occurred around 9:30 am inside a locked room at his in-laws' residence in Basdila Buzurg village, as per the report. Circle Officer (Tamkuhiraj) Jayant Yadav identified the deceased as Jitendra Prasad, a resident of Bihar's Gopalganj district. He had married Shambhu Prajapati's daughter approximately 11 months ago and arrived at his in-laws' house on Tuesday evening.
Sequence of Events
Police stated that on Wednesday morning, Jitendra allegedly called his 18-year-old sister-in-law, Naina Kumari, into his room and locked the door from inside. Investigators suspect that he first shot Naina dead before turning the gun on himself. Family members reported rushing to the room after hearing gunshots but found the door locked. Locals gathered at the scene and alerted authorities after peeping through a window.
Police teams, along with senior officers and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Akanksha Mishra, arrived at the spot and forced open the door. Both bodies were discovered inside the room.
Investigation
Preliminary investigations suggest that the incident may be linked to a suspected love affair, although the exact motive and circumstances remain under scrutiny. Police are continuing their inquiry to uncover further details.
