A 27-year-old man allegedly shot himself in the head with a country-made pistol at his girlfriend's residence in Khatal Gali under the Kadamkuan police station area of Patna on Monday. The deceased was identified as Rahul Kumar, a resident of Buddha Colony, who worked as a store manager at a bag showroom in a popular mall. Rahul had gone to the house of his girlfriend. According to the preliminary police investigation, the incident appeared to be a case of suicide.
Details of the Incident
DSP Town Rajesh said, “The youth shot himself with an unlicensed pistol. In the preliminary investigation, it came to light that the youth went to his girlfriend’s house in Kadamkuan. The girl was not at home. According to her family and locals, she went to Varanasi a day earlier with 2-3 friends. The youth was objecting to this. When the girl’s mother went to fetch water for him, he took out his pistol and shot himself in the head. The woman tried to stop the blood with a cloth and informed the police. The youth died on the spot.”
Police recovered a country-made pistol and one live cartridge from the spot. However, Rahul’s family strongly rejected the suicide theory and accused the girl, her mother and sister of murdering him.
Family's Allegations
Rahul’s elder brother, Pramod Kumar, said, “The girl forcibly called Rahul to her house. She made him sit on a chair. Her mother held one hand and her sister held the other. Then she put a pistol to his temple and shot him.”
Police Investigation
The DSP said the victim’s family had lodged a complaint and the police were investigating the case. “Preliminary investigation revealed that the youth was in a relationship with the girl for nearly a year. Rahul was earlier engaged to another girl about a year ago, during which he came close to the Kadamkuan girl, who is the niece of his fiancée. When the family learned about their relationship, that engagement was called off. Recently, Rahul’s family fixed his marriage with another woman and the engagement took place about five days back,” Rajesh said.
The police are currently examining the evidence and recording statements from witnesses to determine the exact circumstances leading to the death. The country-made pistol has been sent for forensic analysis, and the live cartridge recovered from the scene is also being examined.
