In a tragic incident in the cantonment town of Nasirabad in Ajmer district, police have arrested a man and three of his family members for allegedly strangling his wife to death and then staging the incident to appear as a suicide. The victim, identified as Sonia, was found hanging at her matrimonial home on May 29.
Accused and Victim Details
The accused have been identified as Jayant Dhanka (25), the victim’s husband; his father Subhash Chand Dhanka (65); his mother Manju Devi (62); and his sister Leena (27). All are residents of Kali Mai Road in Nasirabad. The deceased, Sonia, was married to Jayant in 2024.
Initial Claim and Investigation
Initially, Jayant Dhanka informed police that his wife had committed suicide. However, a more thorough investigation was launched after Sonia’s father, Kamal Kumar, a resident of Jaipur, filed a formal complaint. In his complaint, Kumar alleged that his daughter had been enduring continuous harassment from her husband and in-laws since her marriage.
Allegations of Dowry Harassment and Infertility Pressure
According to the complaint, Sonia had confided in her family that she was being harassed and taunted by her in-laws for bringing an insufficient dowry. Additionally, she faced immense pressure because she had not conceived a child. Kumar further alleged that his daughter was regularly abused and physically assaulted.
Police Findings
Investigators revealed that Sonia was strangled to death before her body was hung from the ceiling to simulate a suicide. The police have arrested all four accused and are conducting further investigations into the case. The incident highlights the persistent issue of dowry-related violence and the lengths perpetrators go to cover up their crimes.
