A vigilant passerby played a crucial role in rescuing two young sisters from a horrific ordeal in Manesar, Gurgaon, leading to the dramatic arrest of their kidnapper, an auto-rickshaw driver. The accused, identified as 29-year-old Sarvesh, is now in custody facing serious charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The Horrific Incident in Manesar
The terrifying sequence of events unfolded last Saturday around 5 pm at a ground in Manesar. According to police, several children were playing when Sarvesh arrived at the spot. He specifically targeted the two sisters, aged 8 and 6, approaching them with chocolates and other eatables he had purchased beforehand, indicating premeditation.
Striking up a conversation, the auto driver lured the girls by offering them a ride around the ground. Once they agreed and got into his vehicle, he did not take them for a joyride. Instead, he drove them to an isolated, forested area. There, in a heinous act, he sexually assaulted the 8-year-old girl while her younger sister remained inside the auto-rickshaw.
Timely Intervention and Police Chase
The crime was interrupted by a local resident who happened to be passing by the secluded spot. This alert citizen spotted the auto and the suspicious activity, immediately raising an alarm. Sarvesh panicked and fled the scene on foot, abandoning his auto-rickshaw.
The passerby promptly informed the police control room. A swift response followed, with a patrolling team, officials from Manesar police station, and a crime branch unit rushing to the location. The police informed the traumatized girls' family and arranged for their medical examination. Multiple police teams were formed to track down the fugitive.
Arrest After a Desperate Leap
The breakthrough came on Monday when the Manesar crime branch, using both online and offline intelligence, traced Sarvesh's movements. He was preparing to flee Gurgaon and was waiting for a bus on the KMP Expressway near Pachgaon when a police team located him.
Cornered and seeing the police, Sarvesh panicked. In a desperate attempt to escape, he jumped from the KMP flyover. The fall resulted in fractures in both his legs. He was subsequently taken to a local hospital for treatment and is now under police guard.
Aftermath and Legal Action
An FIR has been registered against Sarvesh at the Manesar police station under relevant sections of the stringent POCSO Act. Police revealed that the accused is married and has a daughter. He lives alone in Kasan while his family resides in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh.
While the girls did not sustain major physical injuries, the psychological trauma is profound. Both sisters are currently undergoing counselling to help them cope with the incident. A senior police officer condemned the act, stating, "This is a heinous crime, and the accused should get stringent punishment." The investigation is ongoing.
