Mapusa Police Intensify Probe into Violent Holi Clash, Summon Four Suspects
Mapusa police have escalated their investigation into a violent altercation that erupted during Holi celebrations in Bodgini on March 4. Authorities have issued formal notices to four individuals, compelling them to appear for interrogation in connection with the incident.
Details of the Assault and Injuries Sustained
According to a First Information Report (FIR) filed in the case, the conflict began with a verbal spat that quickly escalated into a physical assault. The victim, identified as Shaurya Mayekar, and his group of friends were allegedly attacked with beer bottles by the suspects.
The violent clash resulted in injuries to five people, including a young woman. All injured parties received medical treatment at the North Goa district hospital following the incident.
Property Loss and Vandalism Reported by Victims
Beyond the physical injuries, the victims have reported significant property damage and theft. One of the complainants, Krish Navelkar, has alleged that his gold chain, valued at approximately Rs 2 lakh, was snatched during the chaotic melee.
Another victim, Nikita Carvalho, reported a financial loss of Rs 35,000. Additionally, an all-terrain vehicle parked at the venue was reportedly vandalized in the aftermath of the clash.
Suspects Identified and Police Investigation Status
The four individuals summoned by Mapusa police have been identified as:
- Vitthal Suresh Kudnekar
- Mallikarjun Lakhan Hosagouda
- Syed Rafiq Bhandari
- Nitesh Vijay Karapurkar
Initially, police detained and released these individuals after preliminary investigations found insufficient evidence of their involvement. However, the probe has now taken a new direction, with authorities focusing renewed attention on these suspects.
Police Sub-Inspector Babalo Parab is leading the ongoing investigation into the Holi clash incident, working to gather additional evidence and statements from all parties involved.
