Gang Busted in Faridabad for Marriage Fraud

The Faridabad police have dismantled a gang that allegedly defrauded individuals under the guise of arranging marriages. Five suspects, including a married couple, were arrested in connection with the scheme. The gang is accused of cheating cow vigilante Rajkumar Panchal, also known as Bittu Bajrangi, a resident of Sanjay Enclave, by promising to facilitate his marriage. According to police, the complainant was duped of more than Rs 40,000.

Details of the Accused

The arrested individuals have been identified as Danish Chaman (35), Mahvish Danish (27), Sachin (27), and Sanjeev (52), all residents of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, and Pradeep (34) of Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. Police reports indicate that Mahvish Danish has a criminal record, having been jailed twice previously in similar fraud cases. Pradeep has also served jail terms in Aligarh and Dasna for fraud-related offenses.

How the Fraud Unfolded

A case was registered at the Saran police station based on a complaint filed by Panchal. He stated that he had traveled to Aligarh two or three times to meet prospective brides but rejected those proposals. Later, he received a photograph of a woman identified as Pooja, and he agreed to the match. On September 5, 2025, the woman, accompanied by another woman named Rani and others posing as her family members, visited his house and accepted Rs 11,000 for the tika ceremony. The following day, they collected an additional Rs 30,000 for wedding arrangements, assuring him that the marriage would take place at a temple in Aligarh on September 7. However, when Panchal arrived at the temple, none of the individuals appeared.

Investigation Reveals Conspiracy

During the investigation, police discovered that an acquaintance of the complainant, Bunty (alias Avinash), had been asked to help arrange his marriage. Bunty contacted Rani (alias Lakshmi), a matchmaker, who called Rajkumar to Aligarh multiple times before sending him a photograph of Mahvish Danish, falsely identifying her as Pooja. Once Rajkumar accepted the proposal, Mahvish visited his home in Faridabad posing as Pradeep's sister. Sanjeev was introduced as her uncle, Sachin as the middleman, and Danish as her brother. The group collected Rs 11,000 during the tika ceremony and Rs 30,000 for wedding preparations before disappearing.

Legal Action and Previous Records

The police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of more victims. The arrested individuals are currently in police custody and are being questioned to uncover further details of the operation. The Faridabad police have urged the public to remain cautious when dealing with marriage proposals arranged through intermediaries and to verify identities thoroughly.
