Patient Dies in Meerut Hospital Fall: Family Alleges Murder, Hospital Claims Suicide
Meerut Hospital Death: Family Alleges Push, Hospital Says Suicide

A tragic incident at a private hospital in Meerut has led to the death of a patient and sparked a major controversy, with the family alleging murder and the hospital administration terming it a suicide. The police are now investigating both versions of events.

The Fatal Fall and Conflicting Claims

The patient, 45-year-old Sanjay Chaudhary, a resident of the Jail Chungi area, died late on Friday night after falling from the second floor of Lokpriya Hospital located on Garh Road. Chaudhary had been admitted to the hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Wednesday due to critically low haemoglobin levels. Over the next three days, under the supervision of Dr PK Shukla, he was administered three units of blood and was reported to be in stable condition by Friday.

However, the situation took a horrific turn. Sanjay's wife, Jyoti Chaudhary, has made serious allegations against the hospital staff. She claims that the staff deliberately pushed her husband from the window of the ICU's bathroom. Jyoti further stated that her husband had no reason to even use the bathroom as he was fitted with a urine bag. She also accused the staff of negligence for failing to properly monitor the patient.

Hospital's Version and Ensuing Ruckus

The hospital authorities have presented a completely different narrative. They have asserted that this was a case of suicide. Dr Rajiv, the night duty in-charge, explained that the patient went to the bathroom accompanied by a staff member but locked the door from inside. According to Dr Rajiv, Sanjay Chaudhary then broke the windowpane and jumped before anyone could intervene to stop him.

Following the shocking death, the atmosphere at the hospital turned volatile. Sanjay's relatives, including his brother-in-law Pradeep Chaudhary, allegedly created a major ruckus inside the hospital premises. They are accused of vandalising glass panes and damaging other hospital property. The police were called to the scene and managed to bring the situation under control.

Police Investigation Underway

Circle Officer (Civil Lines) Abhishek Tiwari confirmed that Sanjay Chaudhary succumbed to injuries sustained from the fall. He stated that the police are actively investigating the case from all angles. "Both the family's allegations and the hospital's version are being investigated. CCTV footage from the hospital and nearby areas is being examined," said Tiwari. The forensic evidence and the findings from the CCTV analysis will be crucial in determining the sequence of events that led to this unfortunate death.

The incident has raised serious questions about patient safety protocols, monitoring in critical care units, and the accountability of private healthcare facilities. The truth behind whether it was a deliberate act, a tragic suicide, or a result of negligence is what the police probe aims to uncover.
