Meerut Woman Found Dead in Rented Home, Husband Suspected

Police in Meerut discovered a tragic scene on Monday. They found the body of a 35-year-old woman in her rented accommodation. The woman had a sari tied tightly around her neck. Authorities suspect her husband strangled her to death. The husband is now missing and police are searching for him.

Dispute Over Dowry Led to Fatal Confrontation

The victim, Chitra Devi, worked as a part-time maid. She lived in the K Block area under the Medical police station. Chitra shared the home with her husband, Vishu Kumar, who is 32 years old and drives an auto-rickshaw. Her two children, an 11-year-old boy named Harsh and a 9-year-old girl named Pari, also lived there. The family had moved into the rented house just five months ago.

Senior police officer Ayush Vikram Singh provided details about the case. He stated the couple had an argument on Sunday night. The disagreement grew more intense on Monday morning. Chitra's brother filed a formal complaint with the police. He accused Vishu of harassing Chitra for more dowry over the past three years.

Police registered a First Information Report under specific legal sections. These include sections 80 and 85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to dowry death and cruelty by a husband. Officers also applied sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. SP Singh confirmed that Vishu fled immediately after the incident. Law enforcement formed two special teams to track him down and make an arrest.

Children Discover Mother's Body, Reveal Disturbing Details

Chitra's young children made the grim discovery. They had been staying at a friend's house in the Golabadh area for two days. When they returned home, they found their mother's body. The frightened children ran to alert their neighbours. Those neighbours quickly contacted the police.

The children shared crucial information with investigators. They explained that on Monday morning, their father Vishu picked them up from Golabadh. He did not bring them all the way home. Instead, he dropped them off near Surajkund. From that point, Harsh and Pari walked back to their house alone.

SP Singh described the condition of the body. He said Chitra was lying on the bed with the sari wrapped around her neck. Initial medical observations point to death by strangulation. The evidence strongly suggests a violent attack.

Investigation Uncovers Victim's Personal History

Police delved into Chitra Devi's background as part of their inquiry. They learned this was her second marriage. Her first husband was a man named Manoj Kumar. She had her two children with him. Manoj Kumar passed away six years ago.

Chitra decided to remarry three years later. She wed Vishu Kumar, the man who now stands accused of her murder. The dowry harassment allegedly began soon after this second marriage started. The case highlights the persistent and deadly problem of dowry-related violence in some communities.

The Meerut police continue their active investigation. They are pursuing all leads to locate Vishu Kumar. The community remains shocked by this brutal crime in their neighbourhood.
