Bhopal: A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her fiancé inside her house in the Nishatpura area. The accused and his family subsequently called off the wedding alliance. The matter came to light after the survivor narrated her ordeal to her parents. Acting on her complaint, Nishatpura police on Thursday registered a rape case against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and started investigations.
According to the Nishatpura police, the survivor is a Class 10 dropout who manages household chores. In March this year, the 30-year-old man, a resident of the Khajuri area and a property broker by profession, came in contact with her family through a relative. Her family finalized her matrimonial alliance with the man. Given that the girl is a minor, both families had mutually agreed to solemnize the marriage once she attained legal age. The survivor and the accused exchanged contact numbers and quickly developed a romantic relationship over phone calls.
Exploiting her trust and using the pretext of a matrimonial commitment, the accused began visiting the survivor’s house during the day when her parents were away at work. The survivor alleged that the accused forcibly established physical relations with her inside her home on three to four separate occasions under the guise of their impending marriage. Shortly after the assault on June 1, the accused and his family abruptly severed the engagement and canceled the upcoming wedding. Left traumatized by the physical assault, the minor finally gathered the courage to confide in her parents. Subsequently, the case was reported to the police.
