Police in northeast Delhi apprehended three juveniles on Saturday evening after an alleged incident of eve-teasing spiraled into a violent brawl in the Farsh Bazar locality. The altercation left two minors injured and a scooter damaged.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Altercation
The incident unfolded around 6 PM when the Delhi Police received a PCR call reporting both eve-teasing and a physical fight in the area. A police team promptly arrived at the scene to initiate an inquiry.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a 17-year-old boy allegedly passed objectionable remarks at two minor girls, aged 16 and 14, who are residents of the same neighborhood. When the girls objected to his harassment, the accused juvenile reportedly assaulted them.
Intervention and Escalation
Hearing the commotion, the cousins of the two girls—who are also minors—rushed to intervene and confronted the accused boy. This confrontation led to a heated argument that quickly turned physical.
"The accused then called his friends, who are also juveniles, to the spot," stated a senior police officer. The ensuing group altercation resulted in the two cousins sustaining minor injuries. In the chaos, a scooter parked nearby was also damaged.
Police Action and Legal Proceedings
"All minors involved in the incident have been identified and apprehended. No grievous injuries were reported," the officer confirmed. The injured minors received medical assistance and are reported to be in stable condition. Police are also assessing the extent of damage caused to the two-wheeler.
A formal case has been registered under relevant sections of the law pertaining to assault, eve-teasing, molestation, and damage to property.
As all individuals involved are minors, further proceedings will be conducted under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. The police added that counselling for the juveniles and their guardians will be undertaken as part of the legal process, and further investigation is underway.
