Ranchi Police Rescue Missing 12-Year-Old Boy After Two-Month Search

Police in Ranchi achieved another success in their ongoing mission to find missing children. On Monday, officers recovered 12-year-old Kanhaiyya Kumar, who had disappeared from the Ormanjhi police station area back in November.

How the Boy Was Located

Investigators traced Kanhaiyya to the Urwan locality under Chandwara police station limits in Koderma district. The discovery came after an extensive search operation that spanned multiple districts.

Ranchi SP (Rural) Praveen Pushkar provided crucial details about the case. The boy was not abducted, according to police findings. He left his home voluntarily on November 22 after taking Rs 400 from his family.

"He went to his maternal grandmother's house in Bihar's Hajipur," Pushkar explained. "Five days later, he took Rs 200 from her and boarded a bus for Ormanjhi. However, the bus staff forced him to get down at Koderma because he did not have sufficient fare."

The Unexpected Shelter

While wandering on the road in Koderma, a fish shop owner noticed the lost boy. This compassionate individual offered him shelter at his establishment.

"For nearly two months, the boy lived and worked there," Pushkar revealed. "He told us that his parents did not behave well with him. Whenever asked about his home, he claimed he belonged to Hajipur."

The shopkeeper took good care of Kanhaiyya during this period. He later contacted Hajipur police after learning that authorities were searching for the missing child.

The Breakthrough Identification

During a routine visit to the shop, a constable from Chandwara police station recognized the boy. This identification became possible due to the widespread awareness campaign police had launched.

Chandwara police immediately alerted their Ranchi counterparts. Ranchi police promptly dispatched a team to recover the child.

Police Investigation Details

The boy's father, Arjun Saw, filed a formal complaint about his missing son on December 11, 2025. Ranchi senior superintendent of police Rakesh Ranjan responded by forming a special investigation team.

This team, led by the rural SP, implemented multiple search strategies:

  • Pasting posters in neighboring districts
  • Displaying information on buses operating toward Bihar
  • Circulating the boy's details through social media
  • Sharing information through print and electronic media

Police produced Kanhaiyya before the Child Welfare Committee in Ranchi following his recovery. Koderma police coordinated with Ormanjhi police, where the original case had been registered.

"After completing all legal formalities, we formally handed the boy over to the Ormanjhi police team," an official stated. "This allowed for his reunion with family members."

Broader Rescue Efforts

This successful recovery forms part of a larger police initiative. Ranchi police have rescued 15 children from different parts of the state in just the past six days.

The ongoing drive demonstrates police commitment to locating missing children across Jharkhand. Each recovery represents a family reunited and a child brought to safety.
