Major Drug Bust in Mizoram: Over Rs 25 Crore Worth of Narcotics Seized

In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Mizoram Police officials have confiscated narcotics with an estimated value exceeding Rs 25.01 crore over the past seven days. The operations, conducted at various locations across the state, led to the arrest of eight individuals, including two Myanmarese nationals and four persons from Manipur.

Weapons and Ammunition Recovered Alongside Drugs

In addition to the drug haul, law enforcement authorities seized a US-made handgun, accompanied by two magazines and 40 live rounds of ammunition. This discovery underscores the potential links between drug trafficking and armed criminal activities in the region.

Detailed Breakdown of Seizures and Arrests

The series of busts began with Aizawl district police special branch officials, who on Tuesday night intercepted 104 grams of heroin in the Zemabawk area on the northern outskirts of Aizawl. The contraband, valued at approximately Rs 20.4 lakh, was allegedly in the possession of Thanglianmung (26) and Manglianthang (23), both residents of Thinglei village in Myanmar.

Subsequently, on Sunday, police in Saitual district, which borders Manipur, seized 242.79 grams of heroin worth around Rs 48.55 lakh from the outskirts of Keifang town. The suspect, Md Eliyach Hussain (46), hails from Barpeta district in Assam.

Further intensifying their efforts, Saitual district police officials on Saturday confiscated 1.927 kilograms of heroin, with an estimated value of Rs 3.86 crore, in Keifang town. This operation led to the arrest of Mangminlun (26) and Ginlemlal (24), both from Churachandpur district in Manipur.

In another incident early Friday morning, Saitual district police intercepted a vehicle traveling from Manipur towards Aizawl. From this interception, they recovered 2.298 kilograms of heroin valued at Rs 4.596 crore. The individuals apprehended were Zamchinlam (27) and Dothanglen (Lelen) (36), also residents of Churachandpur district.

Major Methamphetamine Seizure in Aizawl

On Wednesday morning, the CID (SB) Operation Team of Mizoram Police made a substantial seizure at Tuirial hamlet near Aizawl. They confiscated 19.836 kilograms of methamphetamine tablets, commonly known as yaba, with a staggering value of Rs 15.86 crore. Lalhnehzova (23) from Zokhawthar village in Champhai district, which borders Myanmar, was arrested in connection with this bust.

These coordinated operations highlight Mizoram Police's ongoing commitment to combating drug trafficking and related criminal activities in the state, particularly in border areas susceptible to such illicit trade.
