The Ludhiana police have registered a case against a money changer for allegedly duping residents under the pretext of providing air tickets and exchanging currency. The accused has been identified as Amit Malhotra, a resident of Atam Nagar.

Police Action Based on Tip-Off

Investigating officer ASI Harbhajan Singh stated that on June 13, while patrolling at Dholewal Chowk, the police team received a tip-off regarding Amit, who runs a firm named Amit Forex at Gill Chowk. The suspect provides services of currency exchange and air ticket booking.

Modus Operandi

According to the information, Amit used to illegally deduct a substantial amount from gullible individuals in the name of government tax while exchanging currency, thereby causing a significant loss to the government. Additionally, he cheated people by booking air tickets at cheap rates and selling them at higher prices. On some occasions, he forged tickets and sold them as genuine, making huge profits.

Recovery and Escape

During the raid, the police recovered Rs 4.70 lakh in Indian currency from the suspect's shop. However, Amit managed to escape from the scene and is currently absconding. The police have launched a search to apprehend him.

The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, and further investigation is underway.
