Mumbai Grinds to a Halt as Marathon Takes Over City Roads
Mumbai faced significant traffic disruptions on Sunday as authorities implemented widespread road closures to accommodate the Tata Marathon 2026. The Mumbai Traffic Police issued a temporary order to ensure a smooth and safe event across Greater Mumbai.
Key Arteries Blocked for Runners
The marathon route stretches through several critical areas, including Azad Maidan, Kalbadevi, D B Marg, Tardeo, Worli, Bandra, Dadar, and Mahim. To manage the flow, traffic police have diverted vehicles using alternate arrangements.
Notably, major roads like the Coastal Road and the Bandra Worli Sea Link leading to South Mumbai and other parts of the city are completely closed. These closures aim to provide a free path for thousands of participants in the annual race.
Essential Services Granted Access
Despite the restrictions, essential services will continue to operate without hindrance. Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr. Priyanka Narnaware confirmed that ambulances carrying patients, fire brigade vehicles, and vehicles transporting milk, gas, and vegetables will have free access on the affected roads.
This exemption ensures that critical supplies and emergency responses remain unaffected during the event.
