Nagpur Doctor Robbed of Gold Chain While Injured After Accident
In a shocking incident in Nagpur, a young doctor from Mayo Hospital became the victim of a robbery while he was lying injured on the road after a motorcycle accident. The distressing event occurred near Lotus Chowk under the jurisdiction of the Ganeshpeth police station.
Details of the Incident
Dr. Kaustubh Kale, a 25-year-old resident of Mhada complex, was on his way to Mayo Hospital in the early hours of March 8, between 4:00 AM and 4:30 AM. As he crossed the stretch from Empress City Gate to the Lotus Chowk area, he lost control of his bike and fell, sustaining a head injury.
While Dr. Kale was lying on the ground, bleeding and disoriented, two individuals without helmets approached him on a black motorcycle. In a matter of seconds, they snatched a 20-gram gold chain from his neck and fled the scene. Despite his injuries, Dr. Kale managed to reach Mayo Hospital, where he received first aid before filing a formal complaint at the Ganeshpeth police station later that day.
Police Investigation and Recovery
The police acted swiftly, registering a case immediately. Police Sub-Inspector Vijendra Nachan led a dedicated team, including Assistant Sub-Inspector Sameer Shaikh, in a thorough investigation. They meticulously scanned over 100 private CCTV cameras installed along the route and in nearby areas, conducted technical analysis of the footage, and gathered intelligence from informants.
Within three days, on March 11, the police identified and arrested the prime suspect, Rajesh alias Babya Uike, a 23-year-old resident of Nandanvan, along with his minor associate. The police recovered the stolen gold chain, valued at approximately Rs 2,40,000, two mobile phones, and the motorcycle used in the crime. The total recovered property is worth around Rs 3 lakh.
Supervision and Further Actions
The successful operation was carried out under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police Rahul Madane, Senior Police Inspector Atul Tawade, and Police Inspector (Crime) Pandurang Jadhav. Authorities are now investigating whether the duo was involved in other recent chain-snatching incidents reported in Nagpur.
Once all legal formalities are completed, the police will return the recovered gold chain to Dr. Kale. This case highlights both the vulnerability of citizens in distress and the effectiveness of modern policing techniques, including extensive CCTV surveillance, in solving crimes quickly.
