The Maharashtra government has granted fresh administrative approval for constructing a new Family Court building in Nagpur at a revised cost of ₹165.62 crore, replacing the earlier estimate of ₹43.42 crore.
Government Resolution and Project Details
A government resolution (GR) issued by the law and judiciary department on June 15 cleared a basement with parking and a nine-storey structure housing 18 court halls, superseding the approval given in November 2022.
The revised proposal was submitted by the Bombay High Court following updated cost estimates. The project, planned at Civil Lines behind Suyog Bhavan, is expected to strengthen infrastructure for family dispute cases.
Execution and Facilities
The building will be executed by the Public Works Department (PWD). As per the GR, the complex will have a built-up area of about 24,598 square metres and include court halls, judicial chambers and allied facilities.
The plan also covers electrical and fire-fighting systems, lifts, air-conditioning, LAN and EPABX networks, water supply, sanitation, furniture, boundary wall, gates, landscaping and parking.
Conditions and Compliance
The government has set conditions before execution. Architectural and layout plans must be approved by competent authorities, along with clearances from concerned agencies. Authorities have been directed to adhere to environmental norms and public works guidelines.
The GR bars deviation from the approved scope, stressing that any change or addition will require prior approval under prescribed procedures to avoid further revisions.
