Nagpur Police Intensifies Security Measures for Holi Festival
In a comprehensive effort to ensure safe and responsible Holi celebrations, the Nagpur city police have significantly enhanced security protocols across the city. The initiative aims to curb unauthorized events, prevent drunken driving, and address potential law violations during the festival of colors.
Massive Deployment of Personnel and Checkpoints
The police have deployed approximately 2,500 personnel to monitor festivities and maintain order. Additionally, around 70 checkpoints will be established at key locations throughout Nagpur. Joint teams from the traffic police and local stations will operate these points to deter impaired driving, which is a common concern during festival seasons.
Zero Tolerance Policy and Public Appeals
Commissioner of Police Ravinder Singal emphasized a zero-tolerance policy for any form of illegality. He urged residents to enjoy Holi in a safe and family-friendly manner. "We are committed to ensuring peaceful celebrations while preventing mishaps," Singal stated.
Joint Commissioner of Police Navinchandra Reddy outlined the security blueprint, noting that preparations are fully underway. "Police will be on their toes from the eve of Holi until midnight on the day of celebration. We will be strictly enforcing the law," Reddy affirmed. He also mentioned measures to send known troublemakers out of the city limits for a few days to maintain order.
Crackdown on Unauthorized Holi Bashes
Zonal Deputy Commissioner of Police Niketan Kadam issued a stern warning to party-goers and organizers. "We urge citizens not to fall for promoters advertising lavish, unregulated Holi bashes that charge entry fees or promise unrestricted fun. Such events frequently bypass mandatory permissions, leading to liquor law breaches, crowding, and grave safety risks," Kadam stated.
He emphasized that police are conducting continuous surveillance and are prepared to conduct immediate raids on venues hosting ticketed or commercial Holi celebrations without proper approvals.
Tech-Driven Surveillance and Cyber Initiatives
In a significant tech-driven initiative, the cyber police have identified around 15 unauthorized Holi party bashes advertised or promoted online across Nagpur. Deputy Commissioner of Police for cyber and traffic, Lohit Matani, stated that details of these events have been shared with respective police stations for swift action.
"Cyber teams are verifying permissions and will enforce shutdowns if violations are confirmed. They are also on the lookout for hate speeches, communal slurs, and social media misuse," Matani explained.
Collaborative Public Safety Approach
Police have appealed to the public to celebrate responsibly, avoid dubious organizers, and report any suspicious activities promptly through helplines or local stations. This collaborative approach aims to foster a secure environment for all residents during the festive period.
With these robust measures in place, Nagpur police are striving to balance festive joy with public safety, ensuring that Holi remains a celebration of colors without compromising on law and order.
