In a decisive action against illegal animal transport, the Kelvad police in Nagpur successfully intercepted a container truck carrying dozens of cattle in extremely distressing conditions. The operation, based on specific intelligence, unfolded on the busy National Highway 47, highlighting ongoing concerns about animal cruelty and smuggling networks.
Interception on NH-47 and Shocking Discovery
Acting promptly on a credible tip-off, a team from the Kelvad police station set up surveillance near the Regional Transport Office (RTO) check post on NH-47. Their target was a specific container vehicle suspected of illicit activity. Upon stopping and inspecting the vehicle, officers were met with a harrowing scene.
Forty heads of cattle were found crammed inside the sealed container with no access to food, water, or proper ventilation. The animals were visibly suffering, packed tightly without any regard for their welfare, a clear violation of prevention of cruelty to animal laws.
Arrests and Major Seizures Made
The police immediately took the driver and his accomplices into custody. The arrested individuals have been identified as Ravishankar Ramsingh Kushwaha (30) from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, Shoaib Ali Munip Ali (24) from Tonk in Rajasthan, and Ajay Virendra Kushwaha (24), also from Kanpur.
The authorities seized significant assets connected to the crime. The primary seizure was the container vehicle itself, valued at approximately ₹35 lakh. The rescued cattle, whose lives were saved from further misery, are estimated to be worth around ₹4.25 lakh. Additionally, three mobile phones, crucial for investigating the smuggling network, were confiscated from the accused.
