Haryana Police Bust Major Newborn Trafficking Network in Bahadurgarh
In a shocking case of human trafficking, the Haryana Police have dismantled an inter-state racket involved in the illegal sale of newborns. The operation, which culminated in Bahadurgarh on April 1, has led to the rescue of a three-day-old baby boy and the arrest of seven individuals, including four new suspects apprehended on Tuesday.
Heartbreaking Sale by Impoverished Parents
Investigations reveal that a daily-wage couple from Faridkot, Punjab, made the desperate decision to sell their infant son for Rs 2.25 lakh. According to police statements, the parents believed their child would receive a superior upbringing and better opportunities through this transaction. The accused traffickers were allegedly planning to resell the baby to a childless couple in Delhi for a staggering Rs 9.25 lakh, highlighting the lucrative and exploitative nature of the crime.
Dramatic Rescue and Medical Care
The newborn was rescued on April 1 when police officers intercepted suspicious vehicles in Bahadurgarh, leading to the initial arrest of three accused. Station House Officer (SHO) Jameel Ahmed provided details on the child's condition, stating, "The baby was initially shifted to a community health centre in Jhajjar. Following a preliminary assessment, doctors referred him to a central care facility in Rewari. The baby is healthy. A team of doctors is closely monitoring his condition."
Expanding Arrests and Ongoing Investigations
With the latest arrests, the total number of individuals in custody has risen to seven. The four newly apprehended accused have been identified as:
- Sandeep Pawar from Ballabhgarh
- Rudra Pratap Singh from Raipur
- Vijay from Greater Noida West
- Mohan Panchal from Delhi/Ghaziabad
All were captured in Bahadurgarh and produced before a court on Tuesday, where they were remanded to five days of police custody. Authorities have confirmed that raids are ongoing to apprehend other members of the trafficking network, including the absconding kingpin and potential buyers who were involved in the illicit transactions.
Modus Operandi: Targeting Vulnerable Couples
Police officials disclosed that the accused operated by targeting vulnerable childless couples through various social media platforms. They lured these couples with promises of illegal adoption in exchange for substantial sums of money, exploiting both the desperation of parents willing to sell their children and the longing of couples seeking to become parents.
This case underscores the grim reality of newborn trafficking in India and the critical role of law enforcement in combating such heinous crimes. The Haryana Police's swift action has not only saved a young life but also exposed a dangerous network that preyed on human emotions and economic distress.
