Couple Dies by Suicide in Khanna

A newly married couple in Khanna ended their lives by consuming a poisonous substance, police said on Wednesday. The incident occurred in Boothgarh village under the Sadar police station limits.

Sequence of Events

According to officials, 31-year-old Gurkaramdeep Singh, an architect, died first. His wife, Jasmine Nagra, 23, died the following day, reportedly unable to bear the loss. The couple had been married for only four months.

Allegations of Blackmail

The family has accused Gurkaramdeep's sister-in-law, Navjot Kaur, of blackmail and mental harassment. Police have registered a case against her under charges of abetment to suicide.

Investigations revealed that Navjot Kaur had previously been in a relationship with Gurkaramdeep. She allegedly demanded money from him by threatening to release obscene photos and videos.

Legal Action

The Sadar police have initiated proceedings and are investigating the case. No arrests have been made yet. The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination.
