A section of the IForte building in Noida collapsed onto parked vehicles during heavy rainfall on Thursday, July 9, 2026, causing significant damage but no reported casualties. The incident occurred around 4:30 pm in Sector 62, a bustling commercial area, as monsoon rains lashed the National Capital Region.
Building Debris Crushes Multiple Vehicles
According to eyewitnesses, a large chunk of the building's facade and structural elements gave way, crashing onto cars and two-wheelers parked in the designated lot adjacent to the structure. At least six vehicles were damaged, with some completely crushed under the debris. The Noida Fire Department and police reached the spot within minutes, cordoning off the area and initiating rescue and clearance operations.
"We heard a loud rumble and then saw dust and debris flying. Several cars were flattened. It was terrifying," said a local shopkeeper who witnessed the collapse. Officials confirmed that no one was inside the vehicles at the time, preventing loss of life.
Heavy Rain Likely Triggered Collapse
Preliminary investigations suggest that the incessant heavy rain over the past 48 hours may have weakened the building's structural integrity. The IForte building, a multi-story commercial complex, had reportedly been showing signs of wear in recent months. Noida Authority engineers have been deployed to assess the stability of the remaining structure and ensure no further collapse occurs.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a red alert for the region, forecasting very heavy rainfall. Noida recorded 112 mm of rain in the 24 hours leading up to the incident, leading to waterlogging in several low-lying areas.
Rescue and Investigation Underway
"We are conducting a thorough search to ensure no one is trapped. The priority is safety and debris removal," said a senior Noida police officer. The building has been evacuated, and nearby establishments have been temporarily closed as a precaution. The Noida Authority has ordered a structural audit of the IForte building and other aging structures in the area.
Local residents and business owners have expressed concerns about building safety standards. "This is a wake-up call. Many old buildings in Noida need inspection before more tragedies occur," said Ravi Sharma, a local resident.
The collapse adds to the challenges faced by Noida during the monsoon season, which often brings flooding and infrastructure strain. Authorities have urged people to avoid parking near vulnerable structures during heavy rain.
