In a significant crackdown on organized crime, the Patna Police on Saturday successfully arrested a notorious land mafia figure who had been evading capture for an extended period. The operation marks a crucial victory for law enforcement in the region's ongoing battle against illegal land occupation and intimidation.
Dramatic Arrest Ends Lengthy Manhunt
The accused, identified as Ravi Raj Singh, also known as Satyendra Yadav, was apprehended from his residence in the Mainpura locality of Patna. A special police team, acting on specific intelligence inputs and under directives from senior officers, conducted sustained raids which culminated in the arrest. City SP (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh confirmed the details of the operation, highlighting the persistent efforts that led to this breakthrough.
A History of Crime and Intimidation
According to the police, Ravi Raj Singh faces serious charges under the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Sections 316 (criminal breach of trust), 318 (cheating), and 351 (criminal intimidation), along with provisions of the Arms Act. SP Singh elaborated on the accused's modus operandi, stating he had been actively involved in land mafia activities in the Danapur area for several years.
"He illegally occupies properties, deliberately creates disputes over land, and uses threats and intimidation against complainants to gain control of the land," the senior police officer told reporters on Saturday.
The accused is not new to the legal system. His criminal history includes alleged involvement in a 2017 murder case in Danapur and another case registered at the Rupaspur police station, where action was previously taken under relevant laws.
Legal Proceedings and Asset Attachment Initiated
Following the arrest, the due process of law was swiftly set in motion. Ravi Raj Singh was produced before a court and has been remanded to judicial custody. In a move to cripple the economic power gained from illicit activities, the police are preparing a separate proposal.
This proposal will be filed under Section 107 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita for the attachment of his illegally acquired properties. This step is critical in ensuring that crime does not pay and serves as a deterrent to others involved in similar organized activities.
SP Bhanu Pratap Singh emphasized that this arrest represents a major step forward in the Patna Police's concerted campaign to curb organized land grabbing in the region. It sends a strong message that individuals operating outside the law, particularly those who use force and fear to seize property, will be pursued and brought to justice.
