A 45-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly killing his wife by pressing a blanket against her face in Rourkela, Odisha. The incident occurred four days prior to the arrest, and the accused confessed to the crime during police interrogation.
Arrest and Confession
The accused, identified as Rabindra Bahadur, was taken into custody by the Raghunathpalli police station. According to the officer-in-charge, S Jhankar, Rabindra admitted to suffocating his wife Sabita Singh (41) by pressing a blanket over her face. The police have seized the blanket from his residence as evidence.
Background of the Case
Sabita Singh lived with her husband Rabindra at Ruptola in Rourkela. Her brother, Khirod Singh, filed a First Information Report (FIR) on Monday, accusing Rabindra of murder. In his complaint, Khirod stated that the couple frequently quarreled, and a violent altercation took place on Sunday night.
Police Investigation
Police received information about Sabita's death on Monday morning. A team was dispatched to the scene, and the body was sent for post-mortem examination. The autopsy was conducted on Tuesday, and the body was subsequently handed over to the family. The post-mortem report revealed that Sabita died due to suffocation, leading police to suspect her husband.
Rabindra was detained on Wednesday and interrogated. On Thursday, he confessed to the crime. He told police that on Sunday night, he asked Sabita for money to buy liquor, but she refused. This refusal sparked a quarrel, during which he pushed her with force, causing her to fall. He then pressed her face with a blanket, resulting in her death.
Legal Proceedings
Rabindra Bahadur is currently in police custody and will be produced before a court. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited.
