Mysuru Traffic Woes Intensify at Key Junctions
Traffic gridlock has tightened its grip on central Mysuru, with Hardinge Circle and the KSRTC suburban bus stand on Bengaluru-Nilgiris Road emerging as major choke points. Commuters are facing significant delays, especially during peak hours, as sudden road closures and diversions disrupt daily travel.
Albert Santosh, a regular commuter, expressed his frustration: "Sudden closure of roads or diversion of traffic at the busy circle causes inconvenience to regular commuters like us. We understand some development works are happening but it shouldn't cause trouble to commuters especially during peak hours."
Ongoing civil works without prior notice are adding to the congestion. Partial road closures and diversions are forcing vehicles into narrower lanes, creating confusion at junctions and further slowing traffic flow. Commuters have appealed to authorities to deploy additional traffic personnel, streamline bus movement, and ensure that roadwork is carried out with proper signage and public communication.
A senior traffic police officer attributed the rising congestion in Mysuru city to the increasing vehicle population, noting that Mysuru is heading the same way as Bengaluru in terms of traffic woes. In response, Commissioner of Police Seema Latkar stated that additional police would be deployed to manage vehicular movement at Hardinge Circle and closely monitor the situation.
Mysuru City Corporation Deputy Commissioner (Development) CS Manju informed TOI that the Under Ground Drainage (UGD) pipe works project is currently underway at Hardinge Circle. He assured that officers concerned would be instructed to take precautionary measures, put up traffic diversion boards, and complete the work at the earliest to minimize inconvenience to road users.
Commuters' Demands
- Deploy more traffic police at key junctions
- Ensure proper signage and advance notice for road closures
- Streamline bus movement at KSRTC bus stand
- Complete civil works without delay
Authorities are urged to coordinate better to ease the daily ordeal for thousands of commuters in Mysuru.
