Odisha Police ASI Caught Taking Rs 8,000 Bribe in Angul

Bhubaneswar: In a significant anti-corruption operation, vigilance officers on Saturday apprehended a woman assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police while she was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 at Jarapada police station in Angul district. The accused ASI was identified as Sita Nayak, currently serving at Jarapada police station. She was the investigating officer in a recently registered case.

Details of the Bribe Demand

According to vigilance sleuths, Nayak initially demanded Rs 10,000 from the complainant to “settle” the matter following a compromise report between the complainant and his opponent. When the complainant expressed his inability to pay the full amount, Nayak reduced the demand to Rs 8,000.

Trap Laid by Vigilance

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant alerted Odisha Vigilance. Acting on the tip-off, a team laid a trap and caught Nayak red-handed inside the Jarapada police station campus while accepting the money. Officials confirmed that the entire bribe amount of Rs 8,000 was recovered from her possession.
