In a major crackdown on illegal gambling, Hemgir police in Sundargarh district of Odisha have busted a large gambling den in the Jamjharia forest area under Hemgiri police station, located near the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border. The operation led to the arrest of 26 individuals on Monday for their alleged involvement in illegal gambling activities, as confirmed by Superintendent of Police (Sundargarh) Amritpal Kaur.
Seizures and Arrests
During the raid, police seized a significant amount of cash totaling Rs 11,16,900, along with nine motorcycles, three cars, 31 mobile phones, and various playing items used for gambling. The arrested individuals are currently being interrogated to ascertain their roles and connections within the gambling network.
Details of the Operation
The raid was conducted based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the illegal gambling den operating in the dense forest area. The location near the state border made it a strategic spot for such activities, as it allowed easy escape routes. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the law and are investigating further to identify any other individuals involved.
This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of Odisha police to curb illegal gambling and related criminal activities in the region. Further investigations are underway to trace the financial trail and possible links to larger syndicates.
