In a massive drive to ensure safe New Year celebrations, police in Gurgaon and Faridabad issued thousands of traffic challans, with a sharp focus on drunk driving. The extensive security and traffic arrangements across both cities involved the deployment of thousands of personnel and resulted in strict enforcement action against violators.
Heavy Police Deployment for Festive Safety
To maintain peace and order, a significant police force was mobilised on Wednesday night. Faridabad police deployed over 1,500 personnel, setting up 18 dedicated checkpoints to catch drink-and-drive offenders. Gurgaon saw an even larger presence, with around 5,500 police personnel on the ground. The Gurgaon police established an extensive network of 68 to 78 drink-and-drive checkpoints across the city.
Deputy Commissioner of Police in Faridabad, Maqsood Ahmad, was personally present in the field to supervise the arrangements. The police spokesperson for Faridabad confirmed that border blockades were set up across the district to monitor movement, and continuous patrolling was carried out throughout the night. All station house officers and other key personnel were deployed to ensure public safety.
Strict Action Against Traffic Violations
The enforcement campaign yielded substantial results. In total, over 300 people were fined for drunk driving – approximately 200 in Faridabad and 102 in Gurgaon. The Gurgaon traffic police conducted a special campaign under the direction of Police Commissioner Vikas Arora and Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr Rajesh Mohan.
Special traffic teams were formed and sent to identified locations with clear instructions to take strict action. The drivers caught under the influence of alcohol in Gurgaon had their driving licences suspended for three months as per the rules.
Overall, the challan numbers were staggering. Faridabad police issued more than 750 challans. In Gurgaon, the total count reached 4,115 challans. As per NIC server data dated December 31, 2025, Gurgaon's breakdown included 2,208 device challans and 1,907 postal challans.
Measures to Prevent Congestion and Ensure Peace
Beyond prosecuting violations, authorities took proactive steps to manage traffic flow. To prevent congestion from illegally parked vehicles, around 20 cranes were deployed at different locations in Gurgaon to tow them away. Strict traffic enforcement was also carried out at major junctions and vulnerable points.
The efforts ensured that New Year programmes organised at various locations in Faridabad concluded peacefully without any law and order incidents. The heavy police presence and visible checking drives across both cities underscored the commitment to allowing celebrations only within the bounds of safety and law.
