Two Cousins Killed in Panchkula Truck-Motorcycle Collision
In a devastating road accident, two cousins, both aged 18, lost their lives after a speeding truck collided head-on with their motorcycle in Panchkula. The tragic incident occurred near PWD Colony in the Raipur Rani area during the intervening night of April 4 and 5.
Details of the Fatal Collision
According to police reports, the victims, identified as Arun and Dikshit, were returning to their village on a motorcycle after visiting a relative. The accident took place near Peer Baba Mazaar, where a truck coming from Trilokpur, allegedly being driven rashly and on the wrong side of the road, smashed into their bike.
The impact of the collision was so severe that both riders were thrown onto the road. Tragically, they were then run over by the truck's rear wheel, resulting in their immediate death at the spot.
Immediate Aftermath and Police Response
Eyewitnesses and passersby quickly intervened, stopping the truck and alerting the police. A large crowd of villagers and commuters soon gathered at the accident site, causing significant disruption to traffic flow.
Police personnel had to manually manage traffic for some time as vehicles slowed or stopped to observe the scene. The chaotic situation required law enforcement to maintain order and ensure the area was secured for investigation.
Legal Action and Investigation
Based on a formal complaint lodged by the victims' relative, Nishant, police registered a case against the truck driver. The driver, identified as Abhishek Thakur, a resident of Chamba district in Himachal Pradesh, was promptly arrested.
However, Thakur was later released on bail following legal proceedings. The truck involved in the fatal accident has been seized by authorities as part of the ongoing investigation.
Post-Mortem and Family Notification
The bodies of the two cousins were transported to the civil hospital in Sector 6, Panchkula, for post-mortem examination. After the necessary procedures were completed, the remains were handed over to the grieving family for final rites.
This tragic incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety and reckless driving in the region, particularly on routes frequented by both local villagers and commercial vehicles.
