Patiala Man Dies by Suicide, Wife and In-Laws Booked for Abetment
A tragic incident unfolded in Patiala where a 30-year-old man ended his life, leading to the registration of a case against his wife and in-laws for abetment to suicide. The deceased, identified as Ravi Kumar, a resident of the Tripuri area, was found hanging at his residence on Tuesday evening.
According to the police, the victim's family alleged that Ravi was subjected to constant harassment and dowry demands by his wife and her family. In his suicide note, Ravi reportedly mentioned the mental torture he faced due to these demands. The police have booked the wife, her parents, and two other relatives under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 306 (abetment to suicide) and Section 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty).
Police Investigation Underway
Station House Officer (SHO) of the Tripuri police station, Inspector Gurpreet Singh, stated that the body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is in progress. The accused have been charged, and efforts are being made to arrest them. The police are also examining the suicide note to gather more evidence.
The incident has once again highlighted the issue of dowry-related harassment in the region. Local residents expressed shock and grief over the untimely death, calling for stricter action against perpetrators of dowry crimes. The victim's family has demanded justice, urging the police to ensure a thorough investigation.
This case adds to the growing number of suicide incidents linked to dowry disputes in Punjab. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to tackling such crimes and have urged victims to come forward and report harassment without fear.
