Patiala Police Arrest 7 in Head Constable's Murder Over Food Bill

The Patiala police have successfully apprehended all seven individuals suspected of the brutal stabbing and subsequent death of Head Constable Amandeep Singh, following a confrontation that originated from a disagreement over a food bill payment. Officials confirmed the arrests, marking a swift response to the tragic incident that unfolded on Sunday.

Details of the Tragic Incident

Amandeep Singh, a 26-year-old resident of Hira Enclave (Puda Colony) in Nabha, was posted at the Civil Lines police station in Patiala. At the time of the attack, he was not in uniform, having gone out with his brother, Navdeep Singh. Witnesses reported that the stabbing occurred during a localized power outage, which provided the assailants with a cover of darkness to carry out their assault.

Sequence of Events Leading to the Attack

According to Senior Superintendent of Police Varun Sharma, the altercation began at a local confectionery and gaming shop. The brothers had consumed burgers and sandwiches and informed the shopkeeper that they would settle the payment shortly. While there was no direct friction between the shopkeeper and the officer, a nearby customer intervened, demanding immediate payment. This customer then called for reinforcements, leading to a group of men surrounding the brothers.

The police stated that the assailants stabbed Amandeep twice in the abdomen using sharp-edged weapons. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to excessive bleeding. Navdeep Singh also sustained injuries during the attack and is currently reported to be in stable condition.

Police Investigation and Arrests

Following the murder, multiple police teams meticulously scanned CCTV footage from the area and conducted extensive raids. Law enforcement officials revealed that two suspects were arrested within hours on Monday, with the remaining five taken into custody by Tuesday. Although the police have not disclosed the names of those arrested, they confirmed that all seven accused are residents of Bouran Gate, Nabha.

A formal case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections for murder. Authorities are actively checking the criminal backgrounds of all seven individuals to determine whether they belong to an organized local gang.

Family's Response and Aftermath

The family of Amandeep Singh initially refused to allow a post-mortem or cremation until all suspects were arrested, citing concerns over the safety of police personnel in the state. Amandeep is survived by his wife and was scheduled to perform in the Republic Day parade on Monday, adding a layer of poignancy to the loss.

Official Statement from Police Leadership

SSP Varun Sharma expressed profound sorrow over the incident, stating, "This was one of our own. It is a deeply saddening incident, and we will ensure the harshest possible legal punishment for those who took the life of a dedicated officer over such a minor issue." This statement underscores the commitment of the police force to seek justice for their fallen colleague.

The swift arrests highlight the efficiency of the Patiala police in handling this sensitive case, ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to justice. The community and law enforcement agencies continue to mourn the loss of a young officer whose life was cut short over a trivial dispute.
