POCSO Court in Palnadu Sentences Man to Life for 2019 Rape of Minor

VIJAYAWADA: In a significant judgment, a special court under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in Palnadu district has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the rape and sexual assault of a minor girl in 2019. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Chilakaluripeta town police station.

Court Verdict

Judge Shammy Sultana Parveen of the POCSO court pronounced the judgment, holding the accused, Rayapudi Mariyadasu alias Raju, a resident of CR Colony in Chilakaluripet, guilty under Section 6 of the POCSO Act and Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000 and awarded an additional one-year jail term for criminal intimidation.

Case Background

According to police reports, a complaint was filed in 2019 at the Chilakaluripet town police station. The case was initially registered by then Sub-Inspector B Sivaramaiah. Former Circle Inspector V Suryanarayana conducted the investigation, and the charge sheet was later filed by Circle Inspector T Venkateswarlu. The case was monitored under the special trial monitoring system introduced by the Palnadu district police.

Police Coordination

Acting on the directions of Palnadu Superintendent of Police (SP) B Krishna Rao, police officials closely coordinated the prosecution process. They ensured effective presentation of evidence and witnesses before the court, which led to the conviction.

SP B Krishna Rao appreciated the efforts of police officers, prosecutors, and court monitoring staff who diligently followed up the case and secured the conviction of the accused.
