Maharashtra Police Dog Tyson Excels at National Police Duty Meet
In a remarkable display of discipline and skill, Tyson, a Doberman sniffer dog from the Nanded range of the Maharashtra police, has achieved significant success at the 69th All India Police Duty Meet (AIPDM). The event, held from March 29 to April 3 at the State Reserve Police Force Group Number 4 in Nagpur, saw participation from police contingents across 28 states, eight Union Territories, and central armed police forces, with 148 police dogs competing in various categories.
Tyson's Medal-Winning Performances
Tyson, attached to the Parbhani police, represented the Maharashtra police after previously earning medals at the state police duty meet in Pune earlier this year. At the national event, he secured a gold medal in the obedience category and a silver medal in the 'refusal of food' test. The refusal of food test is a critical parameter that assesses a dog's ability to resist food offered by strangers, a trait essential for operational reliability and safety in the field.
In addition to these achievements, Tyson delivered an impressive performance in the 'seek and find' category, further showcasing his versatility and training. He led the state's crime detection dog squad at the meet, supported by his handlers, police havaldar Ramchandra Jadhav and constable Sadek Pathan.
Background and Training of Tyson
Inducted into the Parbhani police in 2022, Tyson has played a significant role in numerous investigations, including cases of theft, robbery, murder, and missing persons. He received specialised training at CID Pune and has consistently excelled in competitions, such as winning a gold medal at the Nanded range duty meet in 2023.
Officers attribute Tyson's success to the leadership of Parbhani superintendent of police Ravindra Singh Pardeshi and the dedicated efforts of the training team. In recognition of this achievement, deputy inspector general of police Shahaji Umap felicitated the dog squad with a cash reward of Rs 25,000 and a commendation certificate, praising the team for enhancing the prestige of the Nanded range.
Significance of the Event
The All India Police Duty Meet serves as a premier platform for police dogs to demonstrate their skills in areas like obedience, detection, and field operations. Tyson's performance not only highlights the high standards of training in the Maharashtra police but also underscores the vital role of sniffer dogs in law enforcement and public safety.
