Police Open Fire During Dramatic Arrest of Murder Accused in Kalaburagi

In a tense late-night operation, Kalaburagi City police resorted to firing while attempting to apprehend the prime suspect in the high-profile murder of financier Anil Rathod. The incident, which unfolded on Saturday night, has sent shockwaves through the city, particularly given the victim's familial connection to former minister Revunaik Belamagi.

Chase Leads to Confrontation and Police Firing

Acting on crucial intelligence, officers from the Station Bazar police station tracked the accused, identified as Ishwar Rathod, to Kesaratagi village on the outskirts of Kalaburagi. According to official police statements, the arrest attempt turned violent when Ishwar allegedly attempted to attack the arresting personnel—specifically named as Shivalinga, Anil, and Sanganna.

In what authorities describe as an act of self-defense, police inspector Gurugowda Patil discharged his firearm, striking Ishwar Rathod in the left leg. The suspect sustained injuries from the gunshot and was promptly transported to GIMS Hospital in Kalaburagi, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.

Police Commissioner Oversees Investigation

Following the dramatic arrest and shooting, Kalaburagi city police commissioner Dr. Sharanappa SD personally visited the hospital to assess the situation. He conducted inquiries regarding the condition of the injured police staff involved in the operation.

Commissioner Sharanappa revealed that prior to locating Ishwar Rathod, police had already made significant progress in the murder investigation. Three residents of Rehmath Nagari—autorickshaw drivers Haddi Imran, Minahaz, and Abhishek—were arrested and interrogated in connection with Anil Rathod's murder.

It was based on information extracted from these three individuals that police were able to trace Ishwar Rathod to his hideout in Kesaratagi village.

Financial Motive Behind the Murder

During subsequent interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to police that financial disputes were the primary catalyst for the murder of Anil Rathod. This revelation adds a layer of complexity to what initially appeared to be a straightforward criminal case, highlighting the potentially deep-seated economic tensions that may have precipitated the violent act.

The entire sequence of events—from the initial murder of a prominent financier with political connections, through the arrest of accomplices, to the dramatic police confrontation with the prime suspect—has created considerable excitement and concern among Kalaburagi residents. Authorities continue their investigation while maintaining heightened security measures in the affected areas.
