Encounter in Sushant Lok Leaves Four Gangsters Dead
In a late-night operation on Thursday, Gurugram police foiled a hostage bid by members of the Deepak Nandal gang, killing four criminals and injuring one. Three police personnel sustained bullet injuries during the exchange of fire. The victim, property dealer Vishal Berry, was rescued unharmed.
The incident occurred around 11:30 pm at Berry's residence in A Block, Sushant Lok-1. Berry, son of the founder of SGT University, was alone at home when five armed assailants arrived in a black Scorpio SUV. According to police, Berry had been receiving extortion demands from a wanted gangster based abroad, who demanded several crore rupees.
Police Response and Exchange of Fire
Crime Branch teams from Sector 40 received a tip-off from the Police Control Room about armed criminals in a suspicious Scorpio. As they reached Sushant Lok, the criminals had already started firing at Berry's residence with sophisticated weapons. The police team called upon the miscreants to surrender, but they opened fire, prompting a retaliatory action.
During the encounter, four gangsters were killed, and one identified as Shivam, a resident of Kota Bisar in Nuh district, was injured. Three deceased were from Rohtak and one from Fatehabad. Three policemen—ASI Sunil, Constable Manjit, and Constable Shamsher from Crime Branch Sector-40—suffered gunshot wounds and were admitted to Medanta Hospital.
Recovery of Weapons and Vehicle
Police impounded the black Scorpio and recovered weapons from the scene. A window of the vehicle was shattered during the firing. Senior police officials stated that Berry was rescued safely. The bodies of the criminals were sent for post-mortem examination.
ACP Dharmbir Singh of Sadar said, "The bodies of criminals were sent for a post-mortem examination. Details regarding the slain criminals, weapons seized and other facts would be shared after verification. A further probe is under way."
Police investigation revealed that Berry's father had parted ways with the university. The extortion demands were linked to a gangster operating from abroad. The operation was lauded by local residents for swift action.
