Two Police Officers Suspended Over Hospital Gang Killing in Nanded
In a shocking incident highlighting security lapses, two assistant sub-inspectors attached to the Bhagyanagar police station in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar have been suspended for alleged negligence in duty. This action comes after they failed to prevent the killing of an injured gang member inside a government hospital in Nanded, according to police officials.
Background of the Gang Clash
The suspension followed a preliminary inquiry into a violent gang clash that occurred on April 4. During this confrontation, three men lost their lives: Arijit Singh Gajanan Chavan (25), Mohammad Arbaaz Mohammad Farooq (23), and Syed Avez Syed Khalil (27). The violence erupted around 1:30 AM between two rival gangs, one led by Arijit Singh Chavan and the other by Sai Singh Deepak Singh Grehwal, also known as Sai Lala.
Police reports indicate that Arijit and Arbaaz were killed on the spot during the clash. Meanwhile, Avez sustained serious injuries and was initially taken to a government hospital in Wazirabad. He was later referred to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) at Vishnupuri for further treatment.
Hospital Attack and Security Failures
At GMCH, the situation took a tragic turn when accused Pradip Chavan allegedly attacked Avez with a sharp-edged weapon inside the hospital premises, leading to his death. This incident raised serious questions about the security measures in place at the medical facility.
Superintendent of Police Abinash Kumar stated that the inquiry revealed significant lapses on the part of the personnel on duty. "The preliminary probe has revealed that the police personnel failed to show the required alertness and did not take adequate steps to prevent the attack. Based on this, we have taken disciplinary action," he explained.
Disciplinary Actions and Ongoing Investigations
In response to the findings, the police have not only suspended the two assistant sub-inspectors but also issued a show-cause notice to the inspector concerned. Additionally, they have initiated correspondence with the agency providing security staff at GMCH regarding action against guards who were present during the incident.
SP Kumar emphasized that a detailed departmental inquiry is currently underway. He assured that strict action would be taken against all those found guilty of negligence or misconduct. This move aims to address the security gaps and prevent similar incidents in the future, reinforcing the importance of vigilance in high-risk situations.
