Heroin Recovery from Abandoned Vehicle
Police in Faridkot recovered 1 kilogram and 20 grams of heroin from an abandoned car during a routine checkpoint on Friday. The alleged drug smuggler abandoned the vehicle and fled after spotting the police team. Along with the contraband, officers seized an iPhone and an electronic weighing scale from the car.
Details of the Incident
According to police, a routine checkpoint had been set up when officers signalled a suspicious car to stop. On seeing the police ahead, the driver allegedly panicked, brought the vehicle to a halt a short distance away, and escaped into the nearby area. A search of the abandoned vehicle led to the recovery of the commercial quantity of heroin, an electronic weighing scale allegedly used for weighing the narcotics, and an iPhone.
Identification of Suspect
Based on documents recovered from the vehicle and information obtained from the phone, police identified one of the accused as Karan Sharma. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and a manhunt has been launched to trace and arrest the accused.
