A policeman was injured when some miscreants in a car dragged him while trying to escape a patrol party in the Arniwala area of Fazilka district. The injured policeman was admitted to the government hospital in Fazilka for treatment.

Police have registered a case against the unidentified miscreants for attempted murder and are conducting raids to identify and arrest the accused. Paramjit Kumar, Station House Officer (SHO) of Arniwala, said that on Sunday night, the police received information regarding recurring incidents of transformer oil theft in the area and that some suspicious individuals were planning to steal transformer fuel.

Acting on the information, police personnel with the '112' emergency service were deployed in the area for patrolling. During the patrol, a police team attempted to stop a car on suspicion, SHO Kumar added. When the policemen tried to get the occupants out of the vehicle, the accused sped away. They dragged one policeman, Rakesh Kumar, for some distance, causing him serious injuries.
