Two Policemen Suspended After Cow Slaughter Accused Escapes Custody in Pilibhit
Two policemen faced suspension on Monday in Pilibhit district. This action followed the escape of an accused person from police custody. The accused was involved in a cow slaughter case.
Details of the Suspension
Sub-inspector Manoj Kumar of Puranpur Kotwali and Dial 112 head constable Banwari Lal received suspensions. Pilibhit SP Abhishek Yadav confirmed the suspensions. He cited alleged negligence as the reason.
Both policemen were suspended with immediate effect. An inquiry into the matter will be ordered soon. During the suspension period, they have been attached to the district reserve police lines.
Incident Leading to the Escape
The incident occurred in Raghunathpur village. It happened around 12.30 am in an orchard owned by Satyapal Verma. Mohammad Salim, aged 28, was caught by functionaries of Bajrang Dal and some villagers.
Salim was allegedly packing cow meat after slaughtering the animal. Satyapal Verma alerted the police and the Bajrang Dal members about the activity.
Police handed Salim over to a Dial 112 team. However, he managed to flee shortly after being taken into custody. ASP Vikram Dahiya provided these details about the escape.
Legal Actions and Arrests
Later, an FIR was registered against Salim and three unidentified accomplices. Bajrang Dal district president Sanjay Kumar Mishra filed the complaint. Mishra claimed the accused had been involved in similar offences earlier.
Police said three of the four accused had been arrested by Monday evening. SHO Pawan Pandey stated the accused were booked under specific sections.
The charges fall under Sections 3, 5 and 8 of the Uttar Pradesh Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act, 1955. This legal framework governs such cases in the state.
The swift police response led to the arrests. However, the initial escape has raised questions about custody procedures.
