Post Office Attack in Varanasi Over Old Dispute

Varanasi: In a shocking incident, a female postal department employee, accompanied by her family members, attacked her former colleague inside a post office in the Revati area on May 5. The assault, which stemmed from an old dispute, was captured on video and subsequently went viral on social media platforms.

Details of the Incident

The accused, Chhaya Pathak, is currently posted at the Gai Ghat sub-post office. On the day of the incident, she allegedly entered the Revati post office during working hours along with her family members. The victim, Abhishek Kumar Sinha, a native of Nalanda, Bihar, who is posted at the Revati post office, was attacked with a stick. The assailants not only prevented him from performing his official duties but also threatened him with dire consequences before leaving the premises.

Legal Action Taken

Ballia CO (Bansdih) Jaishankar Mishra confirmed on Saturday that based on Sinha's complaint, the Revati police registered a named First Information Report (FIR) against Chhaya Pathak and her accomplices on May 5. The charges include attempt to murder, criminal intimidation, intentional insult, causing hurt to a public servant, and obstructing government work.

During the investigation, police arrested one of the accused, Abhishek Pandey, near Kushar Road. The stick used in the attack was also recovered. Two police teams are currently conducting raids at possible hideouts of Pathak and her other accomplices.

Background of the Dispute

According to Sinha's complaint, Pathak and her family members cited a past dispute as the reason for the attack. The victim alleged that the accused entered the post office with the intent to kill him and issued threats before fleeing. The police are examining evidence and recording statements to ascertain the exact motive behind the assault.

The incident has raised concerns about security in government offices, especially in post offices where employees often work alone. Authorities have assured strict action against the perpetrators.
