Prayagraj Railway Police Crack Down on Ticket Fraud Ring
Sleuths from the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Prayagraj made a significant breakthrough on Tuesday, apprehending two individuals employed as Automatic Ticket Vending Machine (ATVM) facilitators. The arrests were made on serious allegations of orchestrating a scheme to sell fake long-distance train tickets to unsuspecting passengers.
Details of the Arrests and Seized Evidence
The accused have been identified as Vinay Shukla (23), a resident of Kareli, and Gaurav Pandey (37), from Khuldabad. Both were stationed at the ATVM facility located at Prayagraj Junction, where their official duty involved providing general tickets to passengers. During the operation, police confiscated cash amounting to Rs 2,480, two mobile phones, ID cards, and various other documents from the duo.
Modus Operandi of the Fraudulent Scheme
Investigations reveal that Shukla and Pandey exploited their positions in a calculated manner. Their fraudulent activities involved:
- Procuring legitimate general tickets for long-distance trains several hours in advance.
- Collaborating with an associate named Fahad, a resident of Chowk, to produce multiple counterfeit copies of these tickets.
- Returning the original tickets to reclaim the money initially paid for them, effectively obtaining the tickets at no cost.
- Subsequently selling the fake tickets to passengers, thereby generating illicit profits.
This elaborate scam not only defrauded passengers but also undermined the integrity of the railway ticketing system. Authorities are continuing their probe to uncover further details and possibly more individuals involved in this racket.
