Prayagraj Police: 'Only Holi, No Hooliganism' Warning for Festival

Prayagraj Authorities Enforce Strict 'Only Holi, No Hooliganism' Policy for Festival Season

In a proactive move ahead of the vibrant festival of Holi, the Prayagraj police have issued a firm directive to revellers, emphasizing 'Only Holi, No Hooliganism'. Law enforcement officials have declared that robust security arrangements will be implemented across the city to ensure a peaceful celebration. Those found engaging in mischief or disruptive behavior under the guise of Holi festivities will face strict legal consequences, the police warned.

District Administration Gears Up for Multiple Festivals

Beyond the police commissionerate, the district administration has also mobilized to guarantee an incident-free festival period. District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma highlighted that several major religious events, including Holi, Ramadan, Eid, and Navratri, are scheduled in the coming month. He stressed the necessity for collaborative efforts between police and administrative bodies to facilitate safe, systematic, and harmonious celebrations.

Key directives from the DM include:

  • No initiation of new traditions during the upcoming festivals.
  • Consensus among all parties regarding the relocation of Holika burning sites.
  • Prevention of public transport disruptions caused by Holika Dahan activities.

Social Media Vigilance and Exam Considerations

District Magistrate Verma urged the public to promptly report any misleading information circulating on social media to enable timely intervention. In light of ongoing board examinations, he issued instructions for sound systems to be operated at reduced volumes to minimize disturbances for students. Additionally, senior police officials have been tasked with conducting police station-wise meetings with organizers of Holi and other puja events prior to Holika Dahan.

Infrastructure and Public Safety Measures

The administration has mandated various departments to remain on high alert:

  1. The electricity department is to execute shutdowns only when absolutely essential.
  2. The Prayagraj Municipal Corporation must ensure thorough cleanliness in both urban and rural zones.
  3. The Jal Nigam and fire department have received specific operational guidelines.

Furthermore, strict action will be taken against vendors selling adulterated food items, though the DM cautioned against unnecessary harassment of legitimate sellers. Additional Police Commissioner Ajay Pal Sharma advised against burning Holika beneath power lines or in accident-prone locations, reinforcing the focus on public safety.

This comprehensive approach underscores Prayagraj's commitment to maintaining order and harmony during the festive season, balancing celebration with responsibility.
