Tragic Death of Pregnant Delhi Police SWAT Commando in Alleged Dowry Attack
In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the law enforcement community, Kajal Chaudhary, a 24-year-old SWAT commando with the Delhi Police, has died under tragic circumstances. The victim, who was four months pregnant, succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday, five days after being allegedly attacked by her husband in southwest Delhi's Mohan Garden area.
Dowry Harassment and Murder Charges Added to Case
Following Kajal's untimely death, the police have taken serious action by adding sections of murder and dowry to the ongoing investigation. A senior police officer confirmed that the dowry section was incorporated after the victim's family came forward with allegations of persistent harassment. The accused, Ankur Chaudhary, was swiftly arrested after the attack and is currently held in judicial custody at Tihar Jail.
According to official statements, Ankur worked as a clerk with the Union Defence Ministry, which has since suspended him following police intimation. The brutality of the attack was detailed by investigators, who revealed that "He struck her head at least three times against the door frame and then attacked her with a dumbbell." Police authorities have extended their investigation to question Ankur's relatives as part of their comprehensive probe.
Family's Heart-Wrenching Account of Dowry Demands
The victim's brother, Nikhil, who serves as a constable with Delhi Police, provided a detailed account in the FIR that paints a disturbing picture of ongoing domestic strife. He stated that Ankur and his family had repeatedly humiliated Kajal over dowry demands, with tensions escalating even after she gave birth to their son in 2024.
"Frustrated by the constant taunts and harassment, my sister told me that she could no longer endure the situation," Nikhil recounted in his official statement. "I spoke to her husband and he agreed to arrange a separate flat for them in Delhi." The couple did move to a flat in Mohan Garden in 2024, but unfortunately, the conflict continued unabated.
Nikhil further explained that even in their new home, Ankur began arguing with Kajal, blaming her for "ruining his life" and "keeping him away from his family." To escape the escalating conflict, Kajal made the difficult decision to return to her parental home in Gannaur, Haryana, seeking refuge from the toxic environment.
The Fatal Attack and Medical Timeline
The situation reached its tragic climax on January 22 when Kajal called her brother during another heated argument. Nikhil described the horrifying moment: "While I was still on the phone with my sister, Ankur began hitting her on the head with the dumbbell." Just five minutes later, Ankur called Nikhil back and bluntly informed him about the assault.
Following the attack, Ankur initially took Kajal to a local hospital. Recognizing the severity of her injuries, her family transferred her to a hospital in Ghaziabad two days later. Despite medical efforts, Kajal's condition deteriorated, and she passed away three days after being admitted to the Ghaziabad facility.
Family Legacy and Personal Tragedy
Nikhil shared poignant details about his sister's life and aspirations. "She was our only sister among two brothers," he said emotionally. "I was selected for Delhi Police in 2018, and seeing me, she also decided to join the police force. She worked hard to get selected." Kajal's determination had led her to become part of the elite SWAT team, making her death particularly devastating for her colleagues and the police community.
The couple's one-and-a-half-year-old son, who has been living with Kajal's family since the attack, now faces life without his mother. This case has highlighted the persistent issue of dowry-related violence in Indian society, even affecting families within the law enforcement system.
As the investigation continues, authorities are examining all aspects of this tragic incident, which has raised serious questions about domestic violence prevention and support systems for victims within professional communities.
