Fatal Bus Accident in Pune's Bopdev Ghat Claims Motorcyclist's Life
A devastating road accident on the scenic yet treacherous Kondhwa-Saswad Road in Pune resulted in the death of a motorcyclist and left multiple others injured, including his young son. The collision involved a private luxury bus traveling from Mangalvedha towards Pune city. According to Senior Inspector Maruti Patil of the Yevalewadi police, the bus was carrying approximately 20 passengers when the driver reported a critical mechanical failure. The vehicle's brakes allegedly failed to engage due to overheating, leading to a loss of control and a chain-reaction crash.
The bus first struck a motorcycle from behind, which was carrying 42-year-old Abhishek More from Tathawade, his wife, and their two sons. The impact was severe, trapping the motorcycle under the bus. Abhishek More succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Sunday, while one of his sons suffered leg fractures. The family was returning to Pune from the Saswad side at the time of the accident.
Chain Reaction and Aftermath
After hitting the motorcycle, the bus driver lost control and collided with three other vehicles: a car, an autorickshaw, and another motorcycle. The autorickshaw driver also sustained leg injuries in the chaotic scene. All injured individuals were promptly transported to various nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
In response to the tragedy, the Yevalewadi police swiftly detained the 50-year-old bus driver, a resident of Mangalvedha in Solapur district. He was released on Sunday after being served an official notice. The bus has been seized by authorities, and the Regional Transport Office (RTO) officials will conduct a thorough inspection to determine the exact cause of the accident and verify the brake failure claim.
