Punjab Anti-Gangster Task Force and Bathinda Police Nab Two, Seize Illegal Firearms
In a significant joint operation, the Punjab Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) and Bathinda police have apprehended two individuals and confiscated illegal firearms and ammunition. The arrests were announced by Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Saturday, highlighting a successful crackdown on criminal activities in the region.
Details of the Arrest and Recovery
The arrested suspects have been identified as Jacky Kumar, also known as Jacky, and Vikas Arora, both residents of Bathinda. Vikas Arora has a known criminal background, including prior involvement in a domestic violence case. During the operation, authorities recovered two illegal country-made .32 bore pistols, along with magazines and four live cartridges from their possession.
According to DGP Gaurav Yadav, preliminary investigations indicate that the weapons were procured from Delhi. Further linkages are currently being verified to uncover any broader criminal networks involved in the supply of illegal arms.
Background of the Operation
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) AGTF Gurmit Chauhan revealed that the AGTF Bathinda team received reliable intelligence about Jacky and Vikas Arora. The suspects were reportedly planning to commit a robbery and were seen in the Panchwati area of Bathinda while in possession of illegal weapons.
Acting swiftly on this input, DSP AGTF Bathinda Range Jaspal Singh coordinated with the Bathinda police to set up a joint operation. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jyoti Yadav of Bathinda described how the two individuals were observed approaching from GT Road, Bathinda. Upon noticing a police check post, they attempted to flee but were promptly apprehended by the authorities. A subsequent search led to the recovery of the illegal firearms.
Legal Proceedings and Implications
In response to the incident, a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under the Arms Act at the Kotwali Bathinda police station. This legal action underscores the seriousness with which law enforcement is addressing illegal weapon possession and planned criminal activities in Punjab.
The operation not only prevented a potential robbery but also disrupted the flow of illegal arms into the area. It serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by Punjab police to maintain public safety and combat organized crime through proactive measures and inter-agency collaboration.
