In a major security push ahead of Republic Day, Punjab has deployed an additional 6,000 police personnel across the state to maintain vigilance and conduct special operations against anti-social elements. This significant reinforcement aims to ensure peaceful celebrations and prevent any untoward incidents during the national event.
High-Level Directives for Foolproof Security
Gaurav Yadav, the Director General of Police for Punjab, issued strict instructions on Saturday to all Commissioners of Police (CPs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs). He directed them to implement foolproof security arrangements within their respective jurisdictions, emphasizing the need for comprehensive preparedness.
Furthermore, Yadav mandated that all Station House Officers (SHOs) and gazetted officers remain actively deployed in the field until the Republic Day events conclude. This order ensures continuous on-ground presence and responsiveness to any potential threats or emergencies.
Intensive Operations Under 'Gangstra Te Vaar' Campaign
Arpit Shukla, the Special Director General of Police for Law and Order, highlighted that extensive vehicle checks and scrutiny of suspicious individuals are being conducted statewide as part of the ongoing 'Gangstra Te Vaar' campaign. This initiative targets criminal elements and enhances public safety through proactive measures.
In addition to roadside checks, police teams from every district are executing thorough inspections of hotels and sarais (traditional inns) within their areas. This dual approach aims to root out hidden threats and disrupt any planned unlawful activities, thereby fortifying the security framework.
Public Cooperation and Vigilance Encouraged
Shukla also appealed to citizens to remain alert at all times and promptly report any suspicious behavior or objects to the authorities. He reassured the public that the police are readily accessible through the 112 helpline number, which serves as a critical channel for emergency communications and tip-offs.
