Punjab Police bust cross-border arms smuggling module, arrest 2

Punjab Police on Wednesday dismantled a cross-border arms smuggling module with the arrest of two individuals in Amritsar. The operation led to the seizure of seven sophisticated pistols and 40 live cartridges, according to Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav.

Investigation reveals foreign links

The investigation uncovered that the accused were in contact with foreign-based smugglers through social media platforms. These smugglers allegedly sent weapon consignments via cross-border routes to supply criminal elements in the region, the DGP stated in a post on X.

A case has been registered at the Sultanwind police station in Amritsar, and further investigations are underway, he added.

Impact on regional security

The bust is a significant step in curbing the inflow of illegal weapons into Punjab, which has been a concern for law enforcement agencies. The arrest of the two suspects and the recovery of arms are expected to disrupt the supply chain of illegal weapons to local criminal networks.
