Engineers from Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) have demanded a judicial probe into a vigilance bureau case registered against them. The engineers, represented by the Punjab State Power Engineers Association, allege that the case is a result of harassment and victimization by the vigilance department.
Background of the Case
The vigilance bureau had registered a case against several PSPCL engineers, accusing them of irregularities in the procurement of materials and other administrative matters. The engineers, however, claim that the case is baseless and aimed at pressuring them into compromising on technical standards and safety protocols.

In a press conference held in Chandigarh, association president Harpreet Singh stated that the vigilance action was motivated by personal vendetta and lacked merit. He emphasized that the engineers have always acted in the best interest of the power utility and the public. The association has urged the Punjab government to order a judicial inquiry to ensure transparency and justice.
Demand for Fair Investigation
The engineers have also requested that the investigation be conducted by a retired high court judge to avoid any bias. They argue that the vigilance bureau's actions have created a sense of insecurity among technical staff, affecting the functioning of the power corporation.
Reactions and Support
Several other employee unions have extended support to the engineers, calling for an impartial probe. The association has warned of a statewide protest if their demands are not met. Meanwhile, the vigilance bureau has maintained that the case is based on evidence and will follow due process.
The matter has also drawn attention from political circles, with opposition parties criticizing the state government for allegedly targeting honest officers. The government, however, has remained non-committal on the demand for a judicial probe.
