Railway Police Swiftly Recover Senior Citizen's Lost Gold Chain Worth ₹3 Lakh
In a heartening display of efficiency, the railway police in Trichy successfully recovered a valuable gold chain worth approximately ₹3 lakh that was lost by a senior citizen aboard a crowded train during the Pongal festival. The police managed to trace and return the precious item to its owner on the very same day, bringing immense relief to the elderly couple.
Panic Strikes After Alighting
The incident involved Venugopal, a 67-year-old resident of Gandhipuram in Karur district, who was traveling with his wife. The couple boarded the general compartment of the Ernakulam–Karaikal Express, identified as Train No. 16188, from Ernakulam. Their journey took them from Chalakudy in Kerala to Karur, where they disembarked.
It was only after stepping off the train that they realized their grave mistake. In the hustle and bustle of the crowded Pongal travel, they had accidentally left behind a travel bag containing the gold chain. The compartment was packed with passengers celebrating the festival, adding to their anxiety.
Immediate Police Action
Upon realizing the loss, the distressed couple wasted no time. They promptly approached the Karur railway police station to report the missing bag. The police sprang into action immediately. An officer on duty aboard the same train was alerted about the situation.
Head constable Sekar took charge of the search operation. He meticulously combed through the general compartment located at the front portion of the train. His diligent efforts paid off when he successfully traced the missing travel bag.
Successful Recovery and Handover
To everyone's relief, the gold chain was found intact inside the bag. The railway police ensured that the recovered bag, along with all its contents, was safely returned to Venugopal and his wife. The handover took place at the Trichy railway police station later that day.
This swift recovery highlights the dedication and responsiveness of the railway police, especially during peak travel seasons like Pongal. The elderly couple expressed their gratitude for the prompt action that prevented a significant financial loss.
