Rajasthan HC Directs Jail to Ensure Medical Care for Asaram Given His Age and Health
Rajasthan HC Orders Medical Care for Asaram in Jail

The Rajasthan High Court on Thursday directed the authorities of Jodhpur Central Jail to ensure adequate medical facilities for Asaram, who is serving a life sentence for sexually assaulting a minor. The order was passed by Justice Sanjeet Purohit while hearing a petition seeking specialised medical care, regular health check-ups, and other amenities for the convict in prison.

Court's Directive on Medical Care

After examining Asaram's medical records and previous judicial orders, the court instructed the jail administration to maintain the treatment and medical facilities currently being provided to him without any interruption. The court further clarified that if his condition deteriorates or adequate treatment is unavailable within the jail premises, the authorities may shift him to a hospital for necessary care.

Asaram's Health Concerns

Counsel for Asaram argued that he has been suffering from multiple age-related ailments and requires continuous medical monitoring, specialised consultations, a prescribed diet, and essential amenities. The development comes days after Asaram's health reportedly deteriorated on Tuesday, following which he was shifted to an Ayurveda hospital for treatment.
