In a major breakthrough, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Rajasthan Police has apprehended two individuals in connection with a case involving the alleged manipulation of official records to conceal the use of a dummy candidate in the Lecturer (History) Recruitment Examination-2022. The arrested persons include Rajesh Kumar Meena, the prime accused, and Man Singh Meena, an Upper Division Clerk (UDC) posted at the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) in Ajmer.
Details of the Fraud
According to ADG (SOG) Vishal Bansal, the investigation revealed that Rajesh Kumar Meena, who was weak in studies, arranged for another person to appear in the examination on his behalf. He persuaded his acquaintance Ummed Singh to act as a dummy candidate during the examination conducted in October 2022.
Rajesh allegedly edited his admit card using computer software, replacing his photograph with that of Ummed Singh before handing it over to him. Ummed Singh then appeared in both the General Knowledge and History papers as the proxy candidate. He also forged Rajesh's signatures on the attendance sheets after pasting his own photograph.
Post-Examination Cover-Up
After successfully clearing the examination and securing an appointment as a Lecturer (History), Rajesh Kumar Meena attempted to alter the original attendance sheets preserved in RPSC records. He sought to replace the dummy candidate's photograph with his own. During this process, he allegedly came into contact with RPSC UDC Man Singh Meena through an RPSC landline number.
SOG investigators claim that Man Singh demanded Rs 8 lakh to manipulate the official records, of which Rs 2 lakh was allegedly paid in advance. Based on a complaint, the SOG registered an FIR in the matter.
Arrests and Remand
Police had earlier arrested the dummy candidate Ummed Singh and another associate, Ramesh Bishnoi alias Dhaka. Rajesh Kumar Meena, who had been absconding since the registration of the FIR, has now been arrested and remanded in custody until May 18. Man Singh Meena was arrested for allegedly conspiring to tamper with original RPSC records in exchange for money.
Further investigation is underway to identify other possible accused linked to the conspiracy.
